The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) offers an international renowned doctoral program within Berlin's vibrant and rapidly developing scientific landscape, presenting an exciting variety of opportunities for both mathematical research and graduate education.

As a BMS student, you will become part of a diverse and dynamic community of graduate students from around 50 countries worldwide, approximately 30% of whom are women.



Application Process

We are now inviting applications from highly motivated and talented students who are completing or have completed their Bachelor's or Master's degree and wish to pursue a PhD in mathematics.

The BMS application process consists of two rounds. For admission to our 2026 program, applications will be accepted via our online application portal.

Application Deadlines

Phase I (Master's Studies)
For students who will have completed a Bachelor's degree by summer 2025 and wish to pursue a PhD through the BMS program starting with Phase I (Master's studies):
  • Deadline for scholarship consideration: 1 December 2025
  • Deadline for general admission (without funding): 1 April 2026
Phase II (Doctoral Research)
For students who will have completed a Master's degree (or equivalent) and wish to enter directly into the doctoral phase of the program:  
  • For those starting before August 2026: 1 December 2025
  • For those starting in August, September, or October 2026: 1 April 2026
