The BMS will welcome Bernd Sturmfels from Berkeley as an Einstein Visiting Fellow in May 2015. An expert in combinatorics and algebraic geometry, Sturmfels will set up a research group at TU Berlin while continuing his professorship in Berkeley. One postdoc position and two PhD positions will be offered within Sturmfels' Einstein Foundation project "Nonlinear Algebra" for the period 1 May 2015 to 30 April 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Ideal candidates should have prior research experience, a solid background in core areas of mathematics and should be familiar with mathematical software. PhD topics should touch upon more than one of the following fields: algebraic geometry, combinatorics, commutative algebra, convexity, optimization, statistics.
