The costs you will have to pay for putting your child in day care (Kitakostenbeitrag) depends on your income. (further information in German)
For example: If you earn less than 22.500 euros per year you have to pay 25 euros (plus 23 euros for food) per month for the day care (up to 9 hours a day on weekdays).
The last 12 months before entering primary school are usually exempt from charges. You just need to pay 23 euros monthly for food.
